STEWART ON SCALIA

For someone who thinks the Supreme Court is mostly a bunch of yahoos, it's been a difficult few months as I've been forced to listen to the likes of Thomas and Scalia pimp their books on all my favorite shows. Case in point, Antonin Scalia recently took up two segments on 60 Minutes, and I had to endure Lesley Stahl constantly point out his charm, followed by him making such nonsensical statements as the fact that his social conservative views don't affect his judicial decisions ... whatever ... Then, he follows up that gem by stating he was depressed by many past court decisions but that "things are better now." Thanks, Bush!

There were so many things to be upset about in the interview that I wasn't even sure how to verbalize my anger. Luckily, Jon Stewart took care of it for me in his oh so brilliant manner ...

OT - As if we needed anymore evidence that Billary is a neo-con, she threatens to "obliterate" Iran if they attack Israel. She serves her Israeli masters well. They have nukes and can retaliate on their own, but that's not good enough, that bloodthirsty bitch wants to kill 80 million people and start world war 3.

Yeah, I think Obama is correct when he says that threatening to "obliterate" another country is Bush-speak. This is yet another reason why he is the better candidate IMHO ... But thanks to the "liberal media" and their 24x7 focus on Reverand Wright, she may must pull this thing out.

I meant to say "may just pull this thing out."

Maybe she is the Whore of Babylon spoken of in the Bible? Possibly a sign of the Apocalypse? I'm still rooting for Dorothy, Toto, and the house to put and end to her reign of terror.

Edward, I'm cutting off the Hillary-bashing at this point.

Fact is, she could conceivably be the nominee, and if that happens, we're gonna have to get over ourselves and get behind her (and no, not like that...)

She's certainly not my first (or even third) choice, but with a couple of Supreme Court justices about to retire, any Dem in the office is better than no Dem.

averageman,

You don't have to print this message, but I will ::never:: get behind her. I would vote for Stalin before I voted for Hitlery.

TL, there's a meme for you if you are interested -- you've been tagged.

Edgar, I was only stopping the links to the youtube stuff. We welcome whatever people have to say, as long as it's civil.

I completely understand why you won't vote for Hillary. Here's the thing, though -- we can't get so entrenched in our choices that we don't see the forest for the trees. Obama's no saint -- he's taken plenty of corporate cash. The truly anti-corporate candidates (Kucinich, Edwards, even Ron Paul) have already been taken out by the media, either by attacks or lack of coverage. The Obama movement is actually a far more powerful force for change than the candidate himself.

Yeah, I'm sick of Hillary's triangulating, pandering, attacking politics. But here's the thing -- she's already right on a lot of the issues, and she's flexible in a way that McCain will never be. With pressure from us, particularly the organized, focused kind of pressure that progressives have been assembling the last few years (i.e. the Obama campaign), she could still end up being quite a good president. I learned the other day how FDR campaigned pretty conservatively, he didn't promise any of the great stuff he ended up doing -- it was public pressure *after* he got elected that led him to pass the New Deal, WPA, etc.

In other words, we lead, the politicians follow. Not that I want Hillary to win, or even think she has a right to at this point. But should it end up that way, there's a definite possibility we could make her into the kind of president we want.

And seriously: Supreme Court Justices.

hello averageman,

that the media can affect the way people vote only goes to prove that they are not worthy of ron paul, or any other decent candidate. The problem w/ the US presidency these days is partly found in a Douglas Adams quote:

... anyone who must want to be president is ipso facto not qualified to do the job.

And partly due to a gullible and self-interested electorate.

Not to jump in horribly late, but while I prefer Obama for all the reasons Average Man says, what bothers me is when attacks on Clinton become attacks on Clinton the woman. We're no better than the conservatives if we think it's ok to toss about terms like bitch, whore, etc. for Hillary.

Don't like her positions? Fine, I'm with you.

Attack her as a woman? You need to rethink things.

With all due respect George, I don't call Dubya a dork because I hate men. People don't hate Hillary Clinton because she is a woman, they hate her because she is Hillary Clinton. After all the crooked shit that she's done in her life that she even garnered a single vote makes me lose all regard I ever had for the American people. They deserve a crappy and corrupt gubbermint.
