CONSPIRACY FRIDAY
I was watching this show last night on The History Channel called 9/11 Conspiracies in which they lay out the various September 11 conspiracy theories and then get experts to refute them. I'm not really a big conspiracy guy -- although, I wouldn't put anything past the Bush/Cheney/Rove axis of evil -- but I have to admit that the movie Loose Change does make some intriguing arguments.
Anyway, one of the conspiracy theories floating around out there is that the Pentagon was hit by a missile and not a plane. Now, I thought The History Channel special did a pretty good job of showing why most of these theories don't really add up. However, in the case of missile hitting the Pentagon, they didn't address what I think is pretty damning evidence. Watch this video and pause at 2:57 ...

Am I crazy or is that not a long, skinny white thing that hit that building? That is not the front of a plane.

Good morning ladies and gents. What happened to all the people that were passengers on the plane? Were they systematically executed on a runway somewhere if they did not in fact perish in a crash into the Pentagon?
I'm currently halfway through Tenet's book and it's at the point where it's days after 9/11, and Tenet has a family friend whose wife was a flight attendant on that plane. It was tough to get near the Pentagon in the days after the crash because obviously it was a crime scene, but he was able to get his buddy to the crash site via armored motorcade so the guy could put flowers at the scene in memory of his wife. A poignant story, yes, but not if you are in the conspiracy camp. No, if you're going with the errant missile shot into the Pentagon by our own government, then Tenet's lying to his friends face about the whole ordeal because if the DCI isn't in on the fix then who is?

Edgar, did George Bush pay the Al Qaeda guys to kill themselves? Passenger manifestos have their names on there; or were they doctored after the fact?
How is it possible to reconstruct an airplane when it's mixed with millions of tons of debris compacted into the ground?
Edgar - I admit that there are a lot of inconsistencies and intriguing arguments, but here is my opinion:
1) If you watch The History Channel special, you'll see that they all can be explained. You may not buy the explanations, but I encourage you to watch it none the less.
2) There is a general school of thought that the government is literally incapable of pulling off something that big in scope. I mean, look at Bush's incompetence with Iraq, Katrina, etc. How could he do this?
3) If you look at the number of Bush administration officials who have leaked "damaging" information to the press, it's hard to believe they could keep this secret.
4) If they were going to go through all this effort, why not pin the blame on Sadam directly, since that's who they wanted to attack anyway?
Having said all this, I do believe that a competent administration who was actually concerned about governing could have prevented this attack. Gore wouldn't have ignored a PDB stating "Osama determined to strike in US" ... And a moral administration would never have used that horrible tragedy as an excuse to invade a country for no reason.
McConfrontation - Again, I'm not promoting the conspiracy theories in general. I'm just asking, what is that thing in the frame that hit the pentagon? If you look at a picture of the front of one of those planes, it is big and round and gray. The thing in that footage is small and white and skinny. No one has explained that to me.
I think it could possibly be explained by the speed of it vectoring in there, kind of like when crowd control police fire rubber bullets at protesters, the bullet gets a little, or looks a little, squished and narrower because it's coming out of there at such a high rate of speed? I don't know, I'm just guessing. I've seen those pictures before, and I've watched the Loose Change thing. I have to agree with a couple of your points, though, chiefly how could such a massive conspiracy be kept secret when so many people had to have been involved to make it happen. Loose lips sink ships, basically, and here we are six years later and the most compelling "evidence" is an internet mockumentary voiced over by a guy who sounds like he popped three too many xanax.
Osama determined to strike in US...
You start a conspiracy thread and then ridicule me? Nobody ever questions the spin. Repeat a lie enough and... Osama had nothing to do with 9/11. Go to the FBI website, he is wanted for other crimes, but not in connection with 9/11. Please don't bait people just to make fun. If I had known you were going to do that I would not have left a comment.
Edgar - Believe me when I say that my intention was not to bait, ridicule, or make fun of you in any way. I wrote this post because I just watched The History Channel special and didn't feel that they properly addressed that Pentagon footage. I wasn't trying to belittle your take on the conspiracy theories in general but rather just give my opinion as to why they seem unlikely to me. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
It's cool trekking. I don't know how they did it, but I feel certain that the Bush family and the Saudis were complicit in the attacks on 9/11. Yes, that makes them traitors, but then the Bush family has no allegiance except to themselves and their international band of criminal friends. That's all I'm going to say.
When I first saw that video footage, I said the same thing: "it doesn't look like a plane". However my Aunt lived in Arlington VA at the time (very near where the plane hit), and my uncle just by sheer coincidence was visiting her on that day in 9/11, AND was on her balcony outside, and saw the actual plane. He said to himself and yelled to my Aunt who was inside preparing breakfast "man that plane is low". Point is, he actually say the plane just seconds before he heard the crash, and saw the smoke etc. And, I have talked to him in person after it happened. So, since I believe my uncle, I also believe the plane did crash there. Just wanted to pass this story along.

eyewitness's often mistake 1 kind of plane for another. and 1 that was traveling close to 400 mph that close to the ground would be difficult for someone not trained for that.
do i believe that there was a conspiracy. yes
but i am open to facts that prove otherwise, not lies repeated often enough that they become the FACTS.
